Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) Vice President and Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has announced that the party will now transform from a political force into an institutional political party. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the first national general convention of the RSWP, he said that the party will now prove itself as a political force that can not only oppose, but also govern.
'From today, we are transforming ourselves from a party of movement into an institutional political force,' he said, 'The new generation not only knows how to ask questions, but also answer them. Not only knows how to oppose, but can also govern.' Wagle said that the aim of the RSWP is not only to change the government but also to change the political culture. 'We want to move towards governance based on conscience, law and rules, meritocracy and citizen-centered democracy,' he said.
He said that his party has not come to fight with the old generation, but to establish a new political culture. 'We have not come to remove anyone, but to make Nepal win,' he said, 'The strength of the RSWP should not only be anger, but hope. Not only criticism, but to provide alternatives. Not just rebellion, but construction.'
He said that although Nepal has achieved achievements such as establishing democracy, drafting a constitution and elections, accountability, institutional capacity and quality governance are weak.
'There were many elections, accountability remained weak. The constitution was made, institutions were not strong. The size of the state expanded but the capacity could not increase,' he said.
Stating that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has set the goal of building a liberal democracy, competitive economy and an equitable society, he said that a political system in which the majority rules but the minority is also respected is necessary. He believed that an economic system should be built that achieves success based on ability and hard work, not on access.
'We want a Nepal where youth are not forced to leave the country in search of opportunities,' he said, 'where labor, skills, knowledge and creativity find respect and opportunity on this soil.' Describing the general convention as an opportunity that could become the 'beginning of Nepal's political renaissance', he called for turning despair into hope, anger into construction and rebellion into transformation.
'History gives every generation an opportunity. Our generation has got that opportunity,' he said, 'This first general convention of the National Independent Party could be the beginning of Nepal's political renaissance.'
