UML leader Pradeep Gyawali has said that although obtaining a mandate is important, care should be taken as to how it is utilized properly.
Speaking on behalf of UML at the inaugural ceremony of the first general convention of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Bharatpur, Chitwan, he said that the RSS has unlimited public opinion on its shoulders and that this mandate should not be misused for strengthening democracy.
He said that there was a rush to work in the initial activities of the government. 'There is a brake along with the accelerator in the car. If the balance between the two is not right, an accident can occur,' he said. 'If the judiciary becomes weak, if the presidential institution and parliament become weak and criticism is prohibited, it cannot be said that public opinion can remain forever. The Nepali people should be assured that democracy is safe in the hands of the RSS in the coming days.'
He also suggested that the national interest should be taken into account by being more vigilant by understanding geopolitical and complexities. "It is difficult for a country like Nepal to withstand the geopolitical pressure caused by a single statement or wrong decision," he said.
