Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Khushbu Oli has alleged that the government's recent activities have raised serious questions about constitutional dignity, the country's sovereignty and institutional stability.
Speaking at a special session of the House of Representatives on Friday, she claimed that the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers is interfering with the independence of constitutional bodies. She drew the government's attention to the news that the advisors and aides of the Prime Minister's Office had put pressure on officials of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority by keeping them under control for nine hours.
Oli said that the influence of private secretariats in various ministries and the Prime Minister's Office is increasing unnaturally, and that this has weakened the permanent administrative mechanism. She said that the tendency to prioritize subjective influence over methods and procedures has created a serious crisis in institutional memory and administrative continuity.
"If this news is false, the government should immediately refute it, and if true, this is a direct interference in the independence of constitutional bodies," Oli said. "The Foreign Minister has ignored the reality by basing it only on the embassy report." We are ready to submit the evidence we have to the ministry.’
Also disagreeing with the Foreign Minister’s statement in Parliament the previous day, Oli claimed that the statistics provided by the ministry on the number of Nepali women in Safar Jail in Kuwait were incorrect. Although the Foreign Minister said that only seven Nepali women were in prison, he said that he had direct information about the Nepali women who had returned from the same prison just 24 hours ago.
Stating that democracy can be strengthened only if the institutions of the state are strong, Oli urged the government to abandon the person-centered style of governance and return to the path of method, process and institutional accountability.
