The Koshi Province-level meeting of the Nepali Congress' other factions has begun in Biratnagar on Sunday. It is said that the meeting was organized with the aim of discussing greater unity within the party, strengthening the organization and future political strategies.
Congress leader Shekhar Koirala, former general secretaries Krishna Sitaula and Shashank Koirala, Min Bishwakarma, Minendra Rijal, Sushila Dhakal, Mahindra Subba and other leaders and cadres are participating in the meeting organized at Hotel Manaslu in Biratnagar.
Before the meeting, leader Shekhar Koirala and former general secretary of the Nepali Congress Shashank Koirala were seen together at the Koirala residence in Biratnagar. The two leaders were also seen together on stage.
At a time when various debates are going on within the Nepali Congress regarding internal unity and the role of leadership, the joint presence of the two leaders is seen as politically meaningful.
This is the first such gathering at the provincial level organized by the other parties that did not participate in the special general convention held last December, expressing dissatisfaction with the process. The gathering is said to include discussions on unity within the party, expansion of the organization, preparations for the upcoming general convention, and contemporary political issues.
