Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has clarified that the statement made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah in the House of Representatives on Jestha 17 is related to cross-border occupation, i.e. 'land tenure rights across the border' and encroachment of ten-gaja areas.'
Foreign Minister Khanal clarified the Prime Minister's statement in the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday. He also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified this.
Foreign Minister Khanal also informed that the government is carrying out mapping work through the mechanisms of Nepal and India to identify the actual situation of the border area. He also said that detailed details related to the border will be made public after the mapping is completed.
'The context of the statement made by the Honorable Prime Minister in the Parliament is related to this technical reality. The main question in this regard is how to resolve the border dispute. The Nepal-India border is a bilateral issue. And in line with the spirit of the close relationship between Nepal and India, Nepal is committed to resolving this problem through diplomatic dialogue and negotiation based on the historical treaty and map,' he said.
Similarly, Prime Minister Shah also clarified that he did not seek third-party mediation to resolve the Nepal-India border dispute . Prime Minister Shah had said in the House of Representatives meeting on Jestha 17, 'You may find one thing surprising. I also came to know about it recently after becoming Prime Minister, that India has encroached not only on Nepal's land, but also on Nepal's land in many places.'
The same day Prime Minister Shah made the controversial statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave a clarification . Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri issued a statement and claimed that the issue mentioned by Prime Minister Shah in Parliament was basically related to encroachment of the Dasgaja area and 'cross-border occupation', i.e. 'land tenure rights across the border'.
