Ruling National Independent Party President Ravi Lamichhane has said that the Prime Minister will not be able to come to Parliament immediately to respond to Prime Minister Balendra Shah's statement on the Nepal-India border.
After the opposition parties insisted that the Prime Minister should come to Parliament and clarify his statement that Nepal has also encroached on many areas of India during the all-party meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday, he said that the Prime Minister will not be able to attend Parliament immediately.
'The President said two things. First, we will also discuss within the party,' said CPN-UML Chief Whip Ain Mahar, who attended the meeting. 'Second, the Foreign Minister will respond in the House. After the Foreign Minister responds, if necessary, I will also respond. But the Prime Minister cannot come now.'
However, the opposition parties insisted that the Prime Minister himself should respond. "Since this is a very serious matter, the Prime Minister should come to Parliament and answer and clarify it," said Mahar. "Even if he had no such intention, it is a very national issue for the Prime Minister of a sovereign country to say from the rostrum of Parliament that he has encroached on the territory of another country. Therefore, it is not good. His statement should be removed from the record of Parliament."
