Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) President Ravi Lamichhane has urged the party leaders and workers to strengthen democratic practices, inclusive leadership and organizational culture during the ongoing district convention under the party's first general convention process.
Writing a post on Facebook on Saturday, he said that the ward and municipal level conventions were successfully concluded and now the district conventions are an important opportunity to decide the future direction of the party.
He wrote, 'The convention and general convention are not just a process of selecting leadership, but a historic opportunity to build the eternal life, methods, practices and healthy traditions of the party. This will provide a clear guideline for our future journey.'
Stating that competent, honest and people-friendly leadership is necessary for the party's welfare, Lamichhane said that selecting leadership through dialogue, consensus and internal elections is the democratic culture of the RSWP.
'We have set a goal to make the RSWP an advanced democratic party. For that, not only ideas, but also our style, behavior and political culture must be advanced,' he wrote.
He has expressed concern over the tendency within the party to expect promotions, seek accounting of contributions and compete for leadership with the aim of getting parliamentary opportunities in the future. 'It is a matter of concern that such a trend is trying to take root in four years, which we must correct in time,' he said.
Lamichhane reiterated the goal of developing the party from an alternative force into a political force capable of leading the country, and opined that the narrow-minded thinking that comes with the expansion of the organization should be abandoned.
'Now our goal is not just to become an alternative force, but to become a political force capable of leading the country,' he said, 'Now the time has come to transform from 'me' to 'us.'
