The task force formed to prepare a discussion paper for constitutional amendment met with former Presidents Dr. Ram Baran Yadav and Bidya Devi Bhandari separately on Thursday and collected suggestions on constitutional amendment. The task force stated that it collected guiding suggestions from them with the aim of making the constitution timely, practical and more robust.

The task force formed under the coordination of Prime Minister Balendra Shah's political advisor Ashim Shah visited the residence of former Presidents Dr. Yadav and Bhandari and discussed issues of national interest and systemic reforms.

Former President Yadav has suggested that the discussion paper should be prepared only after establishing the broadest possible national consensus. He has also emphasized that keeping the core essence of the constitution alive is the need of the day.

Similarly, former President Bidya Devi Bhandari also praised the working style and process adopted by the task force, stating that it was positive for the National Independent Party (NISP), which won almost two-thirds of the votes in the parliament, to start this political process of amending the constitution. She expressed her best wishes for the successful completion of this historic work. Constitution Amendment Task Force takes suggestions from former Presidents Yadav and Bhandari

Since the constitution itself is a document of political agreement, it is necessary to move forward by establishing a broad national consensus even when amending it, and she is of the opinion that parties with decisive votes, in particular, can easily move forward with mutual agreement if they wish.

On the issue of women's participation and inclusion, former President Bhandari emphasized the need to make it more practical while defending the achievement of one-third participation of women guaranteed in the constitution. She suggested that the current proportional system should be misused and that it has brought disrepute to big parties, so the number of women should now be clearly determined in the direct election system.
