UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that he will not give a statement to the property investigation commission formed by the government. At a two-day workshop organized by UML on Wednesday, he claimed that the commission was formed to trap people from the opposition party.

‘The property investigation commission formed by the government is like the commission formed by the then King Gyanendra. There are constitutional commissions of the government. Will the commission not investigate new parties and the army? Was it formed to trap KP Oli and Ramesh Lekhak or people from old parties. I do not recognize such a commission. I will not write and send the property details. How can I fill the ashes from a house that was burned to ashes?’

The government had formed the property investigation commission under the leadership of former Supreme Court Justice Rajendra Kumar Bhandari in the first week of Baisakh. The government has given the commission one year.

The commission has a mandate to investigate the assets of high-ranking officials from 2062 to date within a year. The members of the commission include former Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal Purushottam Parajuli and former Justice of the High Court Chandiraj Dhakal, former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Nepal Police Ganesh KC, and former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) Prakash Lamsal.

The government has formed the Assets and Liabilities Investigation Commission to collect and investigate the assets of key political officials and high-ranking officials who held public office from 2062/63 to 2082/083.
