The House of Representatives is facing protests over Prime Minister Balendra Shah's statements and claims regarding the border dispute between Nepal and India.
In the House of Representatives' meeting on Monday, opposition party leaders demanded that Prime Minister Shah's statements be removed from the parliamentary record. They said that the issues raised by the Prime Minister should not be kept in the parliamentary record as they are serious.
Chief Opposition Congress Whip Niskal Rai has questioned whether India will return land if India asks for land based on Prime Minister Shah's statements. 'We have a note of dissent regarding what he said while standing on the rostrum of the Parliament. He should stand on the rostrum of this Parliament again. He should give us an account of every inch of land that Nepal has encroached on. We need an account,' Rai said, 'This is a matter of national pride. It is a matter of national security. If India says tomorrow that it wants our land back, which land will we give back?'
Rai also objected to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issuing a statement in defense of the Prime Minister's statement and the ruling party Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) MPs banging the table. Rai asked the RSS MPs, 'The Prime Minister, standing on the rostrum, said that Nepal has also encroached on India's land, this has been recorded in the Parliament. The statement has been established as a precedent. The ruling party MPs applauded with great pride. They also have questions, they should also have a little self-reflection.'
Prime Minister Shah, while answering a question from Shram Sanskriti Party MP Aren Rai in the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday, had said that efforts are being made to resolve the Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura disputes diplomatically. But in the process, he had said, 'You might be surprised to learn that I too, after becoming Prime Minister, found out that not only has India encroached on Nepal's land, but Nepal has also encroached on a lot of Indian land.'
Speaker DP Aryal has adjourned the House of Representatives meeting after opposition parties protested, demanding that the Prime Minister's statement be removed from the parliamentary record.
