President Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the republic guarantees all political rights. Addressing the Republic Day celebrations held in Tundikhel, Kathmandu, on Friday, he mentioned that the democratic republic is one of the best political systems in the world.

‘The democratic republic is one of the best political systems in the world,’ he said, addressing the Republic Day for the first time after Prime Minister Balendra Shah requested him to address. ‘Through the constitution made by the people themselves, we have further organized the country by imbuing it with the principles of federalism, inclusiveness, social justice and socialism based on democracy.’

President Poudel also said that the republic has extended the rights of the Singha Durbar to every village. ‘Our constitution has adopted citizen supremacy as a great practice,’ he said. ‘This practice has extended the rights of the Singha Durbar to every village. The provincial and local levels are fulfilling their responsibilities accordingly. Sovereignty is being exercised from the people’s homes and courtyards.’

‘The republic has guaranteed us all political rights. It has connected the countrymen and motivated them to build a common nation,' he added.

The President emphasized that political parties, governments and leadership should be humble, responsive to the people and have character. 'Our political parties, our governments and our leadership must be creative, humble, responsive to the people and have character. Our governing bodies must be made dynamic,' Poudel said.
