The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has accused Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal of violating parliamentary decency. Speaking during the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, Nepali Congress Whip Niskal Rai drew attention to the fact that Speaker Aryal, being the guardian of the parliament, cannot violate the dignity of the parliament even by an inch. Rai also questioned how the Shram Sanskriti Party MPs were unruly when Speaker Aryal himself surrounded the well of the parliament while he was in the opposition yesterday and stood with placards to hold the Prime Minister accountable to the parliament.
‘For some time now, the opposition party has been trying to hold the government accountable. As the main opposition party, I myself and other honorable members have tried to stand up and hold the government accountable to the house on issues such as searching for the Prime Minister to answer for policies and programs,’ he said. ‘We did not get the support of the honorable Speaker in this. The government did not. For the past few days, another opposition party has been showing placards here, seeking the government's accountability to the House. The Speaker has called it unconstitutional.'
He added, 'Speaker, I would like to mention a context that should not be forgotten. The party that is in power today was in opposition yesterday. The party that was in power tied a blue scarf around its neck to demand accountability from the government. The current ruling party also went to the well, sat down, and read a book. At that time, the Speaker's seat was on the opposition bench. How is that step taken by itself parliamentary and dignified, and now the opposition party's placard is unconstitutional?'
Whip Rai accused the government of acting against parliamentary dignity.
