Opposition party NCP leader and former Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has objected to the government's decision to place the Assets Investigation Commission under the Prime Minister's Office.
Participating in a discussion on the principles and priorities of the government's appropriation bill for the upcoming fiscal year on Monday, he said that the government, which is supposed to work in favor of good governance, has made the commission independent and empowered in a way that he is in favor of.
Leader Pun said, "While the government should form an independent and empowered Assets Investigation Commission, it has been placed under the Chief Executive and some current and former officials have been given immunity from its jurisdiction. This has raised suspicions that the government is not in favor of selective good governance."
Leader Pun also said that the government needs to pay special attention to solving the problems seen in the country's economy.
