Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has nominated Central Working Committee member Umesh Shrestha as the party's treasurer. Thapa has appointed Shrestha as the treasurer in accordance with Article 21, Clause 4 of the Congress Statute 2017 (with amendments). A statement issued by Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal said that President Thapa had nominated Shrestha as the treasurer. Shrestha had previously served as the treasurer when Sher Bahadur Deuba was the president. Deuba appointed him as the treasurer in 2072 BS and gave him the financial responsibility of the party. Shrestha, who has been active in the private sector and education sector for a long time, is known as an influential leader in financial resource management within the Congress. Thapa has reappointed Shrestha as the treasurer at a time when efforts are being made to strike a balance between new leadership and old experience within the Congress after the party's 15th general convention.
