President Ram Chandra Poudel has expressed concern over the increasing embezzlement in public bodies and directed stakeholders to maintain financial discipline and transparency.
While reviewing the annual report for the fiscal year 2081/82 submitted by the Office of the Auditor General, President Poudel said that the accountability and financial discipline of public bodies have deteriorated due to the increasing embezzlement in government expenditure for a long time.
President Poudel emphasized that public body officials should be more responsible and accountable towards maintaining good financial governance by prioritizing the elimination of embezzlement.
He expressed confidence that the issues raised in this report would make the concerned bodies and stakeholders more aware of their responsibilities. Stating that the role of the Office of the Auditor General will be important in maintaining financial discipline and transparency, President Poudel suggested that the office should be more active in the coming days towards enhancing institutional and professional capacity and maintaining internal good governance.
‘Only by discouraging irregular government spending and maintaining financial discipline can the aspirations of the young generation for sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity in the country be fulfilled,’ said President Poudel.
The report, which has been submitted to the President in accordance with the constitutional provisions, will be submitted to the Federal Parliament through the Prime Minister. He also said that he is confident that the issues in this report will be discussed seriously in the Federal Parliament and appropriate conclusions will be drawn.
