Leader Shekhar Koirala has expressed dissatisfaction with the party leadership after the expansion of the Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress. After President Gagan Thapa nominated 19 central members on Sunday, Koirala said that the decision taken without consultation has affected the party's unity.

Koirala, commenting on Monday through a public statement that the 'bigger unity of the party has been hurt', said that the collective spirit and common ideas within the Nepali Congress are weakening. 'The nomination of 19 people to the Nepali Congress Central Committee yesterday on Baisakh 28 has hurt the bigger unity of the party,' he said.

He said that the party cannot play an effective role in national politics without the overall unity of the Nepali Congress. Stating that the results of the past elections have taught the Nepali Congress a serious lesson, he said that a divided Nepali Congress is in danger of losing the trust of the citizens.

Koirala has described the upcoming local and provincial elections as a 'crucial test' for the Nepali Congress. He said that if the trust of the citizens is not won in those elections too, the national political legitimacy of the Nepali Congress may be questioned.

He has urged to end the politics of factions within the party. He has commented that it is unfortunate that there is a division within the Congress when constitutionalism, democracy and the party's ideals are being attacked in the name of 'populism'. Koirala said that the 15th General Convention should be held as a 'Unity General Convention' and that the next General Convention should be held on the basis of the active memberships renewed and distributed after the 14th General Convention.

The Congress has also launched a campaign to increase the memberships that were renewed earlier.
