The then acting president of the Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka, has said that there was no consultation regarding the nomination of 19 people to the Central Working Committee. Thapa had nominated former president Sher Bahadur Deuba, leaders Shekhar Koirala and Shashank Koirala as central members on Monday.
Koirala has already said that there was no agreement on the nomination. Immediately after Koirala expressed his dissatisfaction through social media, Khadka also expressed his dissatisfaction.
‘Let it be clear to everyone, there was no discussion or consultation with me regarding the nomination of the Central Working Committee that was said to have been made yesterday on 28th Baisakh, not to my knowledge.’ My clear opinion is that the decision of 28th has gone against the objective of achieving comprehensive and complete unity of the party.’ Khadka has said that comprehensive unity within the party is necessary at a time when the party is facing the most difficult and adverse situation in its history since its establishment.
‘In the name of populism, there is a continuous attack on the pillars of constitutionalism and democracy and our values,’ Khadka said, ‘In such a situation, without the broad and complete unity of the party, we cannot play an effective, interventionist and meaningful role in national politics. Therefore, the responsibility of achieving broad and complete unity of the party lies primarily in the hands of Gaganji and secondly in the hands of Vishwaji, in which we have a supporting role.’
He also said that in his meeting with President Gagan and Vice President Sharma, he urged them to prioritize party unity. ‘The divided Congress not only suffered a lot in the past, we also lost the trust and confidence of the common people.’ Therefore, we have the historical experience of the top leaders in charge and everyone on both sides in charge at that time introspecting and moving forward by bringing the party forward with comprehensive and complete organizational and emotional unity,' Khadka said, 'The results obtained in the general election held on 21 Falgun were not only shocking, but also caused great losses. Learning from this, we are at a time when we need to draw inspiration from complete unity with new thinking, perspective, and common sentiment.'
