The parliamentary hearing process for Manoj Kumar Sharma's recommendation for the post of Chief Justice has moved forward. The Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the Federal Parliament has started the parliamentary hearing process for Sharma's recommendation for the post of Chief Justice from Friday.

Thursday's meeting of the Constitutional Council had recommended Supreme Court Judge Sharma for the post of Chief Justice. There is a constitutional provision that a parliamentary hearing should be held before the appointment as Chief Justice. As per the constitutional provision, Sharma's name had reached the hearing committee for a parliamentary hearing.

Friday's meeting of the hearing committee decided to move forward the parliamentary hearing process for Sharma. The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has called for a public complaint regarding Sharma. 'The Constitutional Council has recommended the name of Honorable Manoj Kumar Sharma for the post of Chief Justice.' The parliamentary hearing committee meeting has set a period of 10 days from Saturday to June 4 to collect complaints against him,' said Bodh Narayan Shrestha, chairman of the hearing committee. 'Complaints can be registered directly at the committee secretariat. Complaints can also be sent electronically. We have made arrangements to send complaints through the Chief District Officer. Anonymous complaints can also be sent by specifying the name.'

According to Chairman Shrestha, the person sending an anonymous complaint should also send evidence to confirm the complaint. 'We will start the investigation process on the complaint from June 5,' said Chairman Shrestha. After the investigation on the complaint, the committee will call Sharma, who is proposed as the Chief Justice, and ask him to present an action plan. Sharma will also be asked to answer the allegations and questions raised in the complaint during the committee hearing. After that, the committee will decide whether to approve Sharma for appointment as the Chief Justice. Two-thirds of the members are required to disapprove. The 15-member parliamentary hearing committee includes 12 members from the House of Representatives and 3 from the National Assembly. The parliamentary hearing committee has 8 members from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), 3 from the Congress, and 2/2 each from the UML and the NCP.

Sharma's name was recommended for the post of Chief Justice by the Constitutional Council by a majority decision. When Prime Minister and Council Chairman Balendra Shah recommended Sharma for the post of Chief Justice, Speaker DP Aryal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam, and Deputy Speaker Rubikumari Thakur supported him. Council members National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal and the leader of the main opposition party Bhishma Raj Angdembe, however, disagreed with the decision to recommend Sharma as Chief Justice.

If approved by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee and appointed as the Chief Justice, Manoj Kumar Sharma will lead the judiciary of Nepal, including the Supreme Court, for 6 years.

Sharma, who was recommended as the 33rd Chief Justice, was born on June 18, 1970 (June 18, 2027) in Birgunj, Parsa. He studied BL from Nepal Law Campus in Kathmandu and LLM from Pune University, India. Sharma, who received a doctorate in labor law from Tribhuvan University, registered as an advocate in 2052 and became active in advocacy. Sharma, who served as an additional judge in the Appellate Courts in Butwal and Patan from 27 Jestha 2070 to 26 Mangsir 2072, was appointed a permanent judge of the Supreme Court on 6 Baisakh 2076.

Sharma was recommended as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court five years after becoming a judge of the Supreme Court.
