Poonam Yadav, a candidate from Rautahat-3, who was a candidate from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) in the House of Representatives elections held on 21 Falgun, has left the party. She has said that she left the party because the leaders within the party betrayed her in the election. Rabindra Patel of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was elected in this constituency. Yadav was in fifth place.
‘Even the people of the party did not vote for me. There was a breach in the party,’ she said, ‘That is why I left the party. I have to work independently for a few days. I do not need a party to serve the people.’
She said that she was not given a proper position even though she was a Maoist and worked in the NCP for 10 years. ‘I had worked in the NCP for 10 years as a Maoist but was not in any position,’ she said, ‘I will serve the people as an independent.’ When I joined the party, I got many tags.'
She said that although she felt sad leaving the party she worked for for 10 years, she will now serve in a new way. 'I have no connection with the party now,' she said. 'You can also do politics through social service,' she said.
She had secured 3,881 votes in the House of Representatives elections on 21 Falgun.
She alleges that the tendency to fulfill selfish interests by showing the name of the party has increased among leaders. 'There is a tendency to loot and eat in the name of the party. There is a tendency to show the name of the party but vote for others in the elections,' she said.
She said that after the Gen-G movement, the old tendency has been seen in the NCP to give space to the youth in the party organization. 'The demand of the Gen-G movement is youth. How can it work by bringing elders into the party leadership? There should be youth in every organization,' she said.
She said that she left the party after careful consideration and did not think about joining another party. Her father, Surendra Yadav, was defeated as a Maoist candidate for the mayor of Fatuwa Bijayur Municipality in the last local elections.
