The three opposition parties have drawn attention to 9 points including the problem of squatters, high prices, and lack of fertilizers. Under the chairmanship of UML National Assembly Parliamentary Party leader Prem Prasad Dangal, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party Vasana Thapa and Chief Whip of the Nepali Communist Party Yubaraj Dulal held a joint meeting at Singha Dabar on Thursday and drew the attention of the government.
The parties opposing the ordinance brought forward by the government have drawn attention to the problems and concerns of the common people.
‘At present, our serious attention has been drawn to the intensification of the work of removing squatters and unorganized settlers in various parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, without investigating, collecting data, and identifying them, and without ensuring alternative housing. We object and oppose this attitude of the government,’ the three parties said in the resolution,’ the attention letter said, ‘In this situation, a situation of widespread insecurity, fear and panic has been created among the citizens living in such settlements. In this too, children, pregnant women, postpartum women, senior citizens and poor families have been particularly affected.'
The opposition parties have demanded that the Nepal government immediately provide safe housing for the slum dwellers, taking into account the issues of livelihood and health risks, and provide them with a long-term solution.
They demand that the price increase of daily necessities such as pulses, rice, vegetables, fruits, spices, oil and other food items used in the kitchen be controlled. They have urged the government to provide easy supply of fertilizers.
'Chemical fertilizers, which are in short supply every year, have become even more scarce this year due to the ongoing war between the US, Israel and Iran. Therefore, we demand that the government take this situation seriously and arrange the necessary chemical fertilizers for the rainy season in a timely manner,' the three parties have demanded.
The three parties are demanding control of the outbreak, saying that a large number of birds, including chickens and ducks, have been killed in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Chitwan and Kathmandu due to the spread of bird flu. Similarly, they are demanding to tighten the supply chain to address the price increase in petroleum products.
Opposition to the abolition of student and trade unions
The opposition Congress, UML and NCP have opposed the government's plan to control, ban and abolish the activities of student organizations in its governance reform action plan. 'No one can doubt that Nepali students and their organizations have played a very important role in the fields of democracy, republic, nationality, people's livelihood and educational reform in the country. "Whether it was during the dictatorial Panchayat regime or the autocratic monarchy, the role of student organizations was and is important in establishing and achieving the above issue," the three parties said. "However, it is unfortunate that the current government has decided to dissolve student organizations while ignoring such a role of organizations. Therefore, we demand that the government's decision to dissolve student organizations be immediately reversed."
Protesting the government's decision to restrict, control, and dissolve trade union activities, they demand that the government's decision to dissolve organizations that play an important role in the country's democratic movement, along with the professional rights and interests of the working class, be immediately reversed.
"The government's decision to dissolve the organizations of civil servants active in public administration is grossly undemocratic and anti-people," the three parties protested. The government's decision to dissolve these organizations is unfortunate. Therefore, we demand that the decision to dissolve civil servants' organizations be immediately reversed." The three parties have ignored the opposition parties and demanded that the policies and programs address the voices of all parties.
