Opposition parties Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN and Rastriya Prajatantra Party have urged the government not to issue the ordinance recommended to President Ram Chandra Poudel.
The opposition parties held a meeting at the Congress Parliamentary Party office in Singha Dabar on Wednesday and urged the government not to issue the recommended ordinances. The meeting, attended by Congress Parliamentary Party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe, UML party leader Ram Bahadur Thapa, CPN Chief Whip Yubaraj Dulal and RPP MP Saraswati Lama, also demanded that a parliament meeting be called to protest the ordinance.
‘The Government of Nepal has decided to issue two ordinances amending the Act on the Functions, Duties and Powers of the Constitutional Council, 2066 BS and the Cooperatives Act, 2074 BS, and an ordinance on the Academy of Health Sciences, an ordinance to amend some Nepal laws, and an ordinance on universities on April 15 and has recommended them to the Honorable President.’ The statement issued by the four parties said, ‘It is a grossly unparliamentary and undemocratic step to bring such an ordinance without adjourning the session of the Parliament immediately. We strongly demand that the Government of Nepal withdraw the ordinances immediately. We sincerely request the Honorable President not to approve the ordinances recommended to the Honorable President as they have been recommended with the intention of deceiving the Parliament.’
The parties have also demanded that the adjourned session of the Federal Parliament be called immediately. After the meeting, Congress party leader Angdembe said that the opposition party Shram Sanskriti Party would also be included. He had organized the meeting.
