The process of selecting the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party was formally concluded on Monday. According to party president Gagan Kumar Thapa, after a long struggle and dialogue, it was decided to unanimously select MP Bhishma Raj Angdembe as the leader of the parliamentary party.

Angdembe's name was unanimously proposed in the meeting of the Congress's working committee. President Thapa informed that all the party leaders accepted the proposal with respect. Explaining the delay in selecting the leader, Thapa termed it as 'maturity' rather than 'helplessness'.

Another senior leader Arjun Narsingh KC and other aspiring MPs have also agreed to the process of selecting Angdembe as the leader. Especially the younger generation MPs had said that they were ready to sacrifice themselves for the sake of unanimous leadership, understanding the national needs of the party.

'It is natural for there to be competition in our party, but this time most of the MPs wanted a unanimous leadership. It is easy to have competition within the party, but it is very difficult to have consensus. While you were saying that it was too late outside, we were maturing the decision inside. This delay was not due to laziness or helplessness. It took some time because we had to communicate and discuss with all parties,' he said.

President Thapa expressed confidence that Angdembe's leadership would assimilate the party's core ideals and the current national needs.
