The Nepali Communist Party has formed an 11-member task force for constitutional amendment. The task force was formed at the Central Coordination Committee meeting of the NCP on Monday while the government is holding discussions with the parties for constitutional amendment.
The task force includes Dev Gurung, Prakash Jwala, Prem Bahadur Singh, Randhwaj Kandangwa, Rekha Sharma, Ganesh Bik, Mukti Pradhan, Khimlal Devkota, Dambar Bikram Thapa, Jagdev Chaudhary and Ram Bahadur Chaudhary.
The task force has a mandate to prepare a report for constitutional amendment.
The 'Constitution Amendment Discussion Paper Preparation Task Force-2082' has been formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Balendra Shah's political advisor Asim Shah.
The task force has been formed in accordance with point number 4 of the '100 Action Lists on Government Reforms' made public by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on 13 Chaitra. In its manifesto, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had said that it would prepare a 'discussion paper' on the proposals for constitutional amendment within three months of assuming power in order to establish a national consensus. Similarly, the issues to be submitted for initial discussion by the RSS were a directly elected executive, a fully proportional parliament, a system where MPs do not become ministers, non-partisan local governments, and a reformed provincial structure. In addition to the UML, the Congress, the NCP, the Labor Culture Party, and the RPP have mentioned the issue of constitutional amendment in their election manifestos.
