Khanal was appointed to the vacant post of chief political advisor in a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Thursday. He is the president of Congress Makawanpur Constituency No. 1. He is also the former head of Bakaiya Rural Municipality. The post of chief advisor was vacant after his previous advisor and Congress Makawanpur president Buddha Lama ran for the House of Representatives elections held on Falgun 21.
The meeting certified the decision on performance and evaluation, accepted the resignation of the office bearers of the Problem Solving Committee of Problematic Cooperatives, approved the poverty alleviation policy and appointed Krishna Raj Adhikari, Dhading and Ashok Shrestha, Makawanpur as the chairmen of the Information and Reporting Committee in the province.
According to government spokesperson and Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Prabhat Tamang, the meeting has approved the financial equalization grant to be provided to the local levels in the coming fiscal year.
