United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Paul Kapoor arrived in Nepal today.

He will meet with government officials, business leaders, and cultural experts to further strengthen the US-Nepal partnership, the US Embassy here said.

Kapoor is the highest-ranking foreign diplomat to visit Kathmandu since Balendra Shah took office on Chaitra 13.

Kapoor will hear the government's priorities during his visit to Nepal and convey the message of how Washington wants to cooperate with them.

Assistant Secretary of State Kapoor is also coming to Kathmandu along with two other officials from the US State Department. There is no word on whether Kapoor will meet with the political leadership during his stay in Kathmandu.

According to a government official, Assistant Secretary of State Kapoor is scheduled to meet Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, and officials and members of the Nepal-US Chamber of Commerce and Industry during his visit.

He will also visit the Patan Durbar Square. It is not clear whether he will meet Prime Minister Shah or not.
