Internal strife has been increasing in the opposition parties since the elections held on Falgun 21. The establishment and former President Sher Bahadur Deuba factions in the Nepali Congress have been carrying out parallel activities. The establishment faction has asked former Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka for an explanation.

The meeting of the Congress Central Disciplinary Committee has asked the then Vice President of the party, Khadka, to submit an explanation within 7 days. A meeting held at BP Smriti Bhawan in Lalitpur under the coordination of the committee coordinator Taraman Gurung on Wednesday decided to demand an explanation, concluding that Khadka had issued a statement using the party's fake letterhead and issued it without authorization. The committee has made it clear that action will be taken only on complaints received within the new deadline and that no process will be taken on complaints received after that.

Internal turmoil among opposition parties after huge defeat in elections The internal conflict that began after Vice President Ram Bahadur Thapa was elected as the leader of the parliamentary party in the CPN-UML is intensifying. Some office bearers of the UML fraternal organization had started a signature collection campaign demanding a special general convention. Acting Chairman Thapa and General Secretary Shankar Pokharle instructed Gajendra Thapaliya, the chairman of the party's close intellectual council, who was running the signature campaign, to suspend the campaign last week.

'The leaders have asked us to bring a proposal for the overall reorganization of the party, and to suspend the signature campaign. We have postponed it for now,' said a leader running the signature campaign. 'They have asked us to wait until the next meeting. We have suspended the signature campaign until then.'

After UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli was arrested on Chaitra 14 on charges of misappropriation of millions of rupees in the Gen-G movement, further conflict increased in UML when Thapa took over the responsibility of acting chairman.

Thapa made controversial comments about the then government, Nepali Army, bureaucracy and some NGOs regarding the election results in the first meeting of parliament on Chaitra 18, there was chaos within the UML.

After Vice President Bishnu Poudel said that he would take the initiative for leadership and policy reorganization immediately after the election results, Oli was dissatisfied with him. That is why after his arrest, he not only gave Thapa the responsibility of acting president, but also gave him the opportunity to become the party leader. Even though Oli was released, Thapa remains the acting president.

Thapa, who has a former Maoist background, has been working as Oli's confidant since Falgun 2077 after being in the UML. After Oli was arrested, he has been coming out strongly against the government. Some leaders, including Vice President Poudel, did not like his style of work.

Vice President Bishnu Poudel, Vice President Gokarna Bista, Deputy Secretary General Yogesh Bhattarai, leader Surendra Pandey and others objected to Thapa's statement in parliament. In the secretariat meeting on Chaitra 19, Thapa defended his statement and argued that he was expressing the party's official position. Poudel, Bista and Bhattarai demanded that the statements made by the party leaders regarding the Nepali Army, police and bureaucracy be refuted. The secretariat stated that it had held serious discussions regarding Thapa's statement and stated that the previous relationship with all security agencies and bureaucracy was maintained.

Thapa did not stop there. He called the government an 'enemy' in Pokhara last Wednesday. 'Our enemies have now imprisoned the leading leader of the communist movement. They have now imprisoned the leading leader of the communist movement, Supreme Commander of the socialist movement, KP Oli,' he said as if the party was at war, 'They want to finish it off completely.' His goal is to eliminate the main leaders of the communist movement and democratic movement.'

Internal turmoil among opposition parties after huge defeat in elections Addressing a gathering of workers in Pokhara, he strongly objected to Vice President Poudel's objections, stating that he had expressed his opinion in parliament to firmly implement the party's decisions. 'The people of Koko were agitated by that statement. They were hidden inside, but they were visible outside. It was only that the right-wing tendency within the party was exposed,' he said. 'The party's Vice President (Poudel) objected by making his status public. This is how the internal conflict was seen. Whatever was said in the parliament was the party's line. The party's decisions were firmly implemented. The enemies of the people were attacked verbally. This exposed both external and internal enemies.'

Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta said that there was no reason to object to it since Acting President Thapa had expressed the party's opinion. He said, ‘After Chairman KP Oli is discharged from the hospital, all issues will be reviewed.’

Khimlal Bhattarai, a leader close to Vice Chairman Poudel, objected to the language style of Acting Chairman Thapa and said that it was difficult to maintain the position of leader of the parliamentary party. ‘Acting Chairman and Parliamentary Party Leader Ram Bahadur Thapa is not speaking the views of UML,’ he said, ‘This is not the guidance of the people’s multi-party democracy at all.’

Another leader Surendra Pandey has said that the commentary on the Maoist ‘people’s war’ is not the official commentary of UML. ‘People’s multi-party democracy’ (JABAJ) is what accepts peaceful competition, constitutional supremacy and the people’s vote as the change,’ he said, ‘After 048, we have developed the party’s language, style and policy after a big debate.’

After Chairman Oli’s confidant Thapa was elected as the leader of the parliamentary party, the other side has been dissatisfied. The leaders who competed in the 11th general convention by forming a separate panel had demanded that the Constituent Assembly Chairman Suhang be the party leader.

Former President Bidya Bhandari, in her New Year message on the occasion of 2083, said that the political parties that fell behind the people, including the UML, should conduct a serious and objective review of the election results and assimilate the findings. She said that it is necessary for the party leaders and cadres to move forward with restraint, discipline and strong confidence.

Recently, Bhandari has intensified meetings with leaders of political parties. Bheshraj Adhikari, a close leader and member secretary of the Madan Bhandari Foundation, said that it is normal for former President Bhandari to have political meetings. He said that even though Bhandari's party membership was suspended last Bhadra, she remained active.

Similarly, there has been a debate in the Nepali Communist Party about handing over leadership. Discussions are underway in the Central Coordination Committee on holding a general convention in Bhadra. NCP leader Agni Sapkota said that since the party was unified in Kartik last year, discussions are underway to finalize the integration of all the mass organizations and set the date for the general convention.

He said, 'After the date for the general convention is set, there will be a debate on the method of selecting the leadership.'

Similarly, NCP Bagmati Province President Saral Sahayatri said that there will be a formal debate on the transfer of leadership after the date for the general convention is set. He said, 'The leader's tenure, age, and leadership are being debated informally. There is no dispute that young people should come. There is a debate on the proper management and respect of the old generation, and the executive role of young leaders in the new book. It should be taken to a formal process.'

He said that the leadership should also think about the age limit in the NCP and how many years to stay in the executive position. He said, 'The tenure can be set on how many years in the executive position. How many times will the term be? The dispute in the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has flared up again. The gathering led by General Secretary Dhaval Shamsher Rana in Kathmandu on Sunday has demanded that the date of the general convention be announced within the unity week. Chairman Rajendra Liden has called a central working committee meeting on Baisakh 16 to discuss this. General Secretary Rana informed that the gathering wrote a three-point letter to Chairman Rajendra Lingden demanding that the general convention be held in Jestha. 'Our demand is that the general convention should be held in Jestha,' he said, 'The leadership is not ready to call the general convention.'

Before the Falgun 21 elections, the RPP had decided to postpone the general convention by six months. The demand letter addressed to Chairman Lingden by the Rana faction states that 'a general convention organizing committee will be formed under the coordination of an impartial person to hold the central general convention in a balanced and credible environment.'

‘The date of the central general convention will be announced within a week,’ the ultimatum states. Similarly, an investigation into the actions that were previously against the constitution has been demanded.

‘With the aim of comprehensive reforms, an investigation committee will be formed to conduct a fair investigation into the actions that were against the ideals, constitution and discipline of the RPP after the unity general convention and present the findings at the upcoming general convention,’ the demand states.

RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha said that the gathering was meaningless since the central working committee meeting was called on Baisakh 16. ‘Whatever is discussed, is done in the central working committee meeting,’ he said, ‘there is no point in another gathering.’ The demand letter has been seen on social media.'

Chairman Lingden's faction has accused the group boycotting the elections of holding a separate meeting.' General Secretary Rana's faction has stated that the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, which moved forward with new enthusiasm and new possibilities from the 2078 BS Unity General Convention, has shrunk badly by the time it reached the recently concluded parliamentary elections.'

The Rana faction has stated that 'in the serious situation of whether the RPP will be revived or not, there is no better option than to obtain a fresh mandate from the Central General Convention.' 'The party is currently in an additional period after the regular four-year term of the Central Working Committee has ended,' he said. 'It is clear that when the party decided to extend the term, it was decided to hold the general convention by Jestha 2083 BS.' In this environment, we present our demands as a lifeline to revive the RPP by bringing freshness to the party ranks, to elect a new leadership that is honest towards the party's goals and ideals, and to assimilate the sentiments of leaders and workers across the country.'
