The Nepali Congress is set to select the leader of the parliamentary party on April 4. While there is controversy over who will be the leader of the parliamentary party, Joint General Secretary Prakash Rasaili, who is also the coordinator of the election committee, said that the party leader will be selected on that day.

Even though the central working committee meeting had already formed a three-member election committee under Rasaili's coordination, the process was not taken forward as there was an attempt to get a consensus. 'Now, even if there is no consensus, the party leader will be selected on April 4. We will make the election process public on the 2nd,' he said.

Arjun Narsingh KC, Bhishmaraj Angdambe, Mohan Acharya and Bharat Bahadur Khadka, among others, are claiming to be the leader of the parliamentary party. As tensions have increased among the old leaders, some leaders are now demanding that a young MP be made the party leader. There is also a voice within the party that one of the young MPs Yogesh Gauchan Thakali, Niskal Rai and Basna Thapa should be made the leader of the parliamentary party.

In the background of the Sher Bahadur Deuba faction raising questions about the legitimacy of the Central Working Committee led by President Gagan Thapa, who came from the special general convention, and conducting separate activities, the establishment faction has been trying to get them to agree on the selection of the parliamentary party leader. For that, President Thapa and Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma are planning to nominate the then Joint General Secretary of the Working Committee, Angdambe.

Angdambe is a leader close to Deuba. After the 21 Falgun elections, he has been associated with the Central Working Committee selected from the special general convention. President Thapa, on the other hand, is in trouble because Leader KC has not given up his aspirations to be the party leader. KC is related to Thapa's father-in-law. Both Angdambe and KC are MPs from the proportional representation side. “The chairman and vice-chairman are unanimous in advancing Angdambe if there is consensus,” said an official. “If not, it may be possible to appoint someone directly elected.”
