Controversy has flared up again in the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). A gathering held in Kathmandu on Sunday under the leadership of General Secretary Dhaval Shamsher Rana has demanded the announcement of the date of the general convention within a week.

General Secretary Rana has said that the gathering has written a 3-point letter to Chairman Rajendra Lingden, demanding that the date be set for the general convention in Jestha.  ‘We have demanded that the general convention should be held in Jestha,’ he said, ‘Although it was decided to hold the general convention in Jestha, there is a delay. ’ The RPP had decided to postpone the general convention before the 21 Falgun elections.

The demand letter also demands ‘the formation of a general convention organizing committee under the coordination of an impartial person to hold the central convention in a balanced and credible environment, the announcement of the date of the central convention within a week, and an investigation into the acts and actions that were previously against the constitution.

The demand letter of the gathering is meaningless: Spokesperson Shrestha

RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha said that the demand letter of the gathering is meaningless because the central working committee meeting was called on 16 Baisakh. ‘Whatever is discussed now will be in the central working committee meeting,’ he said, ‘there is no point in another gathering.’

The group that boycotted the elections, led by Chairman Lingden, has accused the group that boycotted the elections of holding a separate gathering. The General Secretary Rana’s party has stated that the RPP, which had moved forward with new enthusiasm and new possibilities from the 2078 Unity General Convention, has shrunk badly by the time it reached the recently concluded parliamentary elections. ‘In the pre-election central working committee meeting, Chairman Lingden had said, ‘Let me play, I will make the RPP the first party in the country,’ and had said that unimaginable results would be achieved in favor of the party.’ The statement signed by Rana and other leaders said, ‘Of course, the results were unimaginable, but negative.’ It has been a month and a half since the shameful results were achieved, but no account has been taken of the electoral failure and no moral responsibility has been taken . In this hour of crisis and anxiety, party ranks across the country are waiting for guidelines from the center, empty-handed .’

Amid the vacuum, serious questions remain about the future of millions of cadres and the party itself . Meanwhile, the process of abandoning party responsibilities and party membership by leaders and cadres continues .

Rana said in a statement that amid the serious situation of 'whether the RPP will be corrected or not', there is no better option than to obtain a fresh mandate from the central general convention .
