Oli, who was arrested for investigation into the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24, was released on bail on Thursday morning. As per the Supreme Court order, Oli was released in the custody of his wife Radhika Shakya, Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Ramesh Thapa told Kantipur.
Hearing the writ petition filed by the Oli family for custodial interrogation, the court had ordered their release from custody after the five-day extension granted by the Kathmandu court expired on Monday. The bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Sunil Kumar Pokharel had stated that the detention ‘cannot be said to be against the law’, but had ordered that the investigation be completed during the extension period and the case be decided accordingly.
‘If that is not possible, after the third extension period, Oli and Lekhak shall be released from custody after completing the process of Section 15 of the Criminal Code, 2074 BS and further investigation shall be completed,’ the order stated.
The court had also noted that it was evident from the file that Oli’s statement and other investigation work had been completed. And, among those recommended for action by the investigation committee, it was mentioned that the then Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Chhabilal Rijal, was also released on condition that he be present when searched.
