The government has recalled ambassadors from six countries appointed under political quotas. The ambassadors of India, Australia, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Denmark, and South Africa appointed by the KP Oli government have been recalled.
The Oli government had appointed ambassadors to 17 out of 34 missions under political quotas. When the Sushila Karki-led government recalled ambassadors from 11 countries appointed under political quotas last October, the ambassadors of six countries were not recalled.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Chhetri Poudel confirmed the decision to recall the ambassadors. He said that the recalled ambassadors had been sent a letter on Monday to return within a month.
The cabinet meeting held on Sunday recalled Shankar Prasad Sharma (India), Chitralekha Yadav (Australia), Purna Bahadur Nepali (Sri Lanka), Shivamaya Tumbahamphe (South Korea), Sumnima Tuladhar (Denmark) and Kapil Shrestha (South Africa).
