UML has decided to nominate Leela Bhandari for the post of Vice President of the National Assembly.
Nominations are being registered today for the post of Vice President and the election is scheduled for tomorrow. This post is vacant after the end of Bimala Ghimire's term. The election for the post of Vice President is being held as per Sub-rule 1 of Rule 8 of the National Assembly Rules 2075 BS.
Bhandari was elected as a member of the National Assembly in the elections held on Magh 11. She was elected from Kailali from Constituent Assembly Constituency No. 6 in 2064 BS.
She was a candidate from the same constituency in 2070 BS and was defeated by Sher Bahadur Deuba. She was a member of the Maoists at that time. Bhandari joined the UML in 2074 BS.
