The Nepali Communist Party has claimed the post of Deputy Speaker.

The NCP has claimed the post of Deputy Speaker after the election of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) Deputy Chairman DP Aryal as Speaker. NCP leader Barshaman Pun informed that he will also discuss the matter with other parties.

‘We have a claim on the Deputy Speaker,’ he said while talking to the Parliament building premises after the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday. ‘The selection of the Speaker has just been completed. We are talking. Now we will also discuss with other parties.’

The main opposition Nepali Congress has also claimed the post of Deputy Speaker.

Due to the constitutional provision that a single party cannot hold both the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker, now any party other than the RSWP will get the Deputy Speaker post.

The parties have shown interest in this post as there will also be a Deputy Speaker in the Constitutional Council, which recommends appointments to constitutional bodies.

The Constitutional Council, chaired by the Prime Minister, includes the Chief Justice, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Speaker of the National Assembly, and Leader of the Opposition.
