The CPN-UML is going to field its candidacy for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives. The UML is preparing to field former party Vice President Guru Baral as its candidate.
According to a CPN-UML MP, the Federal Parliament Secretariat has been informed over the phone that it will field its candidacy. The UML has said that it will not field its candidacy if the main opposition Nepali Congress fields its candidacy.
‘If the Congress fields a candidate, we will support the Congress,’ the MP told Kantipur, ‘If it does not field a candidate, we will register our own candidacy. We will field Guru Baral as its candidate.’
A Parliament Secretariat source also informed that the UML has inquired about fielding its candidacy.
The ruling party, the National Independent Party, has decided to field Deputy Chairman DP Aryal as its candidate for the Speaker post. He has also registered his candidacy.
The time for filing candidacy for the Speaker's post is set from 11 am to 2 pm today.
The election for the Speaker's post is being held on Sunday.
Aryal of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is certain to be elected Speaker, having received close to two-thirds of the votes.
