Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) President Ravi Lamichhane has clarified that the party has not yet started any discussions on the selection of the Deputy Speaker.
Talking to media persons at Singha Durbar on Friday, he said that discussions on the Deputy Speaker will proceed only after the election process of the Speaker is completed.
'We have not entered into the discussion on the Deputy Speaker now,' Lamichhane said, 'Let us first complete the work of the Speaker, and only then will we discuss the Deputy Speaker.'
He clarified that the selection of the Deputy Speaker will be based on the constitutional provisions, practical aspects and past practices. 'We will move forward by looking at both the constitutional provisions and practical circumstances,' Lamichhane said, 'The party is committed to the spirit in which I made my statement in Parliament.'
Lamichhane emphasized that the role of the Speaker should be impartial and dignified. He said that after being elected as the Speaker, a person should not belong to any particular political party but should be the common guardian of the entire House and all MPs.
