The party's Central Disciplinary Committee has decided to warn the then acting president of the Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Disciplinary Committee held on Wednesday on charges of institutionally parallel activities of the party.
The Disciplinary Committee has considered the issue of Khadka issuing a statement last Saturday using the party's 'letterhead' as the 'acting president' as the main basis for warning him.
Khadka had issued a statement regarding the arrest of UML President and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. He had called a meeting of the Central Working Committee elected from the 14th General Convention on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Smart Hotel in Dhumbarabahi. However, after leader Shekhar Koirala and his party leaders pressured not to hold the meeting in a way that would appear parallel to the party's institutional banner, it was converted into an informal gathering.
‘The unauthorized statement issued on Chaitra 14, 2082, using a fake Nepali Congress letterhead and claiming responsibility for a responsibility that he did not have, has been warned as it is wrong,’ the disciplinary committee said without mentioning names.
‘In addition, it has been decided to take action against anyone who does such fraudulent work in the future as per the Nepali Congress Statute 2017 (with amendments) and prevailing Nepali laws,’ the statement issued after the committee meeting said. Meanwhile, the gathering started by Khadka in Dhumbarahi on Tuesday continues on Wednesday.
