Prime Minister Balendra Shah has raised the issue of the arrest of UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. UML lawmakers had drawn the attention of Prime Minister Shah to immediately release Oli, saying that he was arrested in a political vendetta.
Prime Minister Shah had called the lawmakers of Koshi Province to Singha Durbar on Monday to discuss the development and construction of the region. In the process, UML lawmaker Rajendra Rai raised the issue of Chairman Oli's arrest.
Rai had said, 'Party Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli has been arrested in a vendetta. The government should release him immediately, I demand his immediate release.'
Prime Minister Shah did not respond to the issue raised by UML lawmaker Rai. Shah had answered the questions raised by the lawmakers about the development and construction status of his region and the plans to be brought in the upcoming budget. Prime Minister Shah had said that the issues raised by the lawmakers regarding development would be addressed appropriately according to the budget.
An MP participating in the meeting said, 'The Prime Minister had answered the issues we raised related to development. However, he had no answer regarding Oli's arrest.'
Former Prime Minister and UML Chairman Oli was arrested by the police from Bhaktapur on Saturday. Oli and the then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak were arrested by the police on Saturday morning in the course of implementing the report submitted by the Gauri Bahadur Karki-led commission that failed to stop the firing on the Gen-G protesters on Bhadra 23. The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to keep both of them in custody for 5 days for investigation. UML has announced that it will wage a street and legal battle against Chairman Oli's arrest.
