The police are preparing to begin recording the statements of former Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak from Tuesday. The police, which have received permission from the court to keep them in custody for 5 days, are preparing to record the statements of Oli and Lekhak during the investigation. According to Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Ramesh Thapa, the police are trying to gather additional evidence by focusing on the inquiry commission report of 23 and 24 Bhadra. 'They have been arrested for the implementation of the report and the work of recording statements according to it will probably start from Tuesday,' he told Kantipur. 'The investigation officers are preparing for that.' The officers involved in the investigation say that preparations are being made for that as some questions need to be asked based on evidence. Oli is currently being kept at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital due to health problems. Lekhak is in the 2nd Battalion of the Maharajgunj Police.
Oli was produced online for the extension of his remand. The writer, however, had reached the court. Officials say that they have not yet decided how to record his statement due to health and safety reasons.
The report of the commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki had recommended action against Oli and the writer under Sections 181 and 182 of the Criminal Code. Section 181 states that ‘no one shall kill another by negligent act’ and section 182 states that ‘no one shall kill another by negligent act’. If the offence under Section 181 is confirmed, there is a provision for imprisonment for 3 to 10 years and a fine of 30,000 to 100,000 rupees, while Section 182 provides for imprisonment for up to two years and a fine of up to 30,000 rupees.
