Among the voters of Jhapa-5, who have repeatedly elected Prime Minister, senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Balendra Shah is expecting good governance and stability after becoming Prime Minister.

In a conversation with Kantipur, most of the voters of Jhapa-5 expressed the view that the government should have stability along with peace, stability and good governance. In Jhapa-5, senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Shah defeated UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli. ‘This time, we have elected a new face, let the next government last for 5 years, let good governance be planted, that is enough,’ said Dambar Khatiwada of Damak.

Laxmi Kafle, who has been doing business in Damak Bazaar, said that an investigation should be conducted against parties that have led the government several times and those accused of corruption while being in the government machinery. ‘My wish is that the new faces from the party that came with new zeal and mandate should open the old files and start an investigation, and bring anyone who is proven guilty to justice,’ he said.

Bikram Limbu, who has been driving a Damak-Kathmandu bus from Gauradah, Jhapa, expects the government led by the newly appointed Prime Minister to take steps to end the irregularities in the transport sector.

‘If a group that started a business with millions of investments shuts down a business in the name of agitators, it should be shut down, they should stop the vehicles halfway and in the forest in the name of a strike and cut them day and night. If we really want to feel the change, there should be an environment where people can work and eat without fear by paying taxes according to the law,’ he said.

Sirjana Rajbanshi of Gaurigunj believes that the new government should introduce farmer-friendly programs. ‘The rice and wheat grown day and night with hard work are sometimes washed away by floods and sometimes by hail, there is no way to treat the crops when pests and diseases attack them, an environment should be created where technicians can reach the villages, animal and crop insurance should be implemented, if only this would benefit the farmers,’ she said.

The people's representatives they had elected before repeatedly said that despite the development here compared to other areas, proportional budget distribution was not possible. 'Previously, development and budget distribution were not proportional, those with access would pour budget into their areas, now let this practice end forever,' said Shiva Rai of Kirant Chowk.

'We voted for the same party repeatedly, the leaders we elected reached important responsibilities for the country, but we could not be satisfied with their working style. In the elections held after the Gen-G movement, we have sent a young and energetic candidate from a new party to the polls. Let the country turn around under his leadership,' said Rai.
