Congress President Gagan Thapa said that he wanted to resign immediately after the election, but some technical issues prevented him. Thapa said this while speaking at the Congress Central Committee meeting. This is the first time President Thapa has spoken publicly since the House of Representatives election.

In the meeting, President Thapa also said that resigning is not a matter of shame but a matter of accountability. He said that they came from the general convention in a very adverse situation and accepted the truth that they went to the election under his leadership and said that they should be accountable for it. Thapa said that he had fulfilled his duty and the central office bearers had made a different decision on the resignation. He also explained the background of informal talks with the office bearers to accept his resignation. He said that even if the issue of refusing to resign was against his expectations, he would accept it.
