Renowned journalist Rishi Dhamala, who suffered a bitter defeat in the House of Representatives elections, has returned to his constituency of Rautahat.

Dhamala, who had been silent for some time after the election results were announced, has now been seen actively reaching the village to meet voters and strengthen his social hold. On Saturday, he interacted with voters about the problems and solutions of Rautahat-4, where he contested the election. He declared that he would fulfill it by saying, ‘Free education and health are the dreams of Rautahat residents.’

Despite not getting the expected number of votes in the election, Dhamala has said that he took the defeat as a lesson rather than disappointment. Taking a break from the busyness of Kathmandu’s ‘Prime Time’ television and Reports Club, he returned after interacting with locals on the streets, tea shops and toll roads.

‘Elections are like a celebration of victory and defeat. I have not lost.’ I have won your hearts,' Dhamala said in a meeting with the locals, 'Even if I lose the election, I have come to win the hearts of the people of Rautahat. Winning and losing in politics is a technical matter, but my responsibility towards the soil can never be forgotten.' He also expressed his commitment to continue with the development work according to the wishes of the people of his area.

The locals here have seen Dhamala's latest activism as a long-term strategy. Dhamala, who left journalism and embraced politics, has indicated that he will make Rautahat his main field of work amidst the challenges. He also reached the village to see the damage caused to banana farms in Chandrapur-3 and 4 due to the storm. He also expressed his commitment to provide relief to the affected farmers by coordinating and taking necessary initiatives with the concerned bodies to solve the problems of the farmers. He also said that he will take initiatives with the concerned bodies to adopt long-term solutions including insurance to avoid such disasters in the future. Stating that there is a lot of work to be done and that he is constantly in touch with industrialists to open industries and factories in the district, Dhamala said that he has been in constant communication with them.

Dhamala, who contested for the House of Representatives from Rautahat-4 with the Aam Janata Party (AJP) as a member of the House of Representatives with the mobile election symbol, had his deposit confiscated after receiving very few votes. Out of the 73,398 votes counted, Dhamala received only 655 votes. Ganesh Poudel of the National Independent Party (RSP) won from this constituency with 36,876 votes. There were 37 participants in the election race. The deposits of 34 candidates, including the UML, have been confiscated. The Congress and the NCP, however, have saved their deposits from this constituency.
