Nepali Congress MP Arjun Narsingh KC is set to administer the oath to the newly elected MPs. According to Federal Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri, KC, who was born in 2004 BS, is the oldest among the currently elected MPs.
Spokesperson Giri informed that KC will chair the meeting until the Speaker is elected. The Secretariat has also stated that a letter will be written to the President's Office to administer the oath to KC. According to Giri, KC will take the oath of office and secrecy before President Ram Chandra Poudel on Chaitra 21. After that, he is scheduled to administer the oath to the MPs on Chaitra 22 in the afternoon. The House of Representatives Election Act stipulates that elected MPs must take the oath before the person presiding over the House of Representatives. Article 91(5) of the Constitution states that in the event that the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are not elected, the oldest member of the House of Representatives shall preside over the House of Representatives among the members present.
