The first agenda of the Central Working Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress, which begins on Friday, will be a discussion on the resignation of President Gagan Thapa. Thapa had submitted his resignation to Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma on Wednesday, taking moral responsibility for the defeat in the election.
The party statute stipulates that the president should resign the vice president and the vice president should present it to the central working committee for a decision.
Vice President Sharma has said that Thapa will not accept his resignation even if the issue of taking moral responsibility for his resignation is positive. Sharma said that a proposal to reject the resignation will be submitted after an initial review in the meeting. An official said that if Sharma moves forward with the proposal to reject the resignation, there is a strong possibility that the entire central working committee will reject it.
‘It is positive to say that I will take moral responsibility. But the main moral responsibility at this time is the responsibility to handle the situation. An initial review, resignation letter and a proposal to reject the resignation will be submitted in the meeting,’ Sharma said, ‘It is not fair to blame the person who came to put out the fire for the fire.’
General Secretary Pradeep Poudel said that other issues will be discussed only after discussing and finalizing the issue of the president’s resignation. "The issue of the resignation of the first president is important, it will probably be decided in tomorrow's meeting," he said, "However, the review of the election and the regular general convention will be discussed."
