UML leader Pradeep Gyawali has said that his party has suffered a serious blow in history.

Noting that confusion and despair have emerged in the UML ranks with the election results, he said, 'Such reactions are not unnatural in the midst of adverse results.'

He made his views public on social media after UML's huge defeat in the elections. He mentioned that the current results were created due to policy-level and structural issues as well as stylistic, leadership and individual roles. 'All of these must be objective, in-depth and ruthlessly reviewed.' He said.

He also mentioned how many of the internal and external reasons could be addressed or corrected in time. 'How many were beyond our control, beyond the balance of power and beyond our control,' he wrote.

Emphasizing the need for an objective, in-depth and ruthless review of all this, he has also warned the party ranks that the crisis will deepen if they say 'this is how it is' or blame others only.

Saying that the majority of voters have now accepted what the UML called false and misleading as truth, he has also admitted that dialogue and trust have not been established with the new generation.

Gyawali was a candidate from Gulmi-1 for the parliamentary elections held on 21 Falgun. Sagar Dhakal of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has won from that constituency.
