Baglung, considered the stronghold of the National Janamorcha (RJM), has lost its legacy in this election. While elections are being held without an alliance across the country, the National Janamorcha, which entered the election in Baglung in coordination with the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), has not only been defeated here, but its candidate's deposit has also been confiscated.
According to the coordination, in Baglung constituency number 1, Krishna Prasad Sharma Adhikari of the RJD was the candidate with the glass symbol and in constituency number 2, Gyamnath Gaire of the NCP was the candidate with the star symbol. In constituency number 2, Gaire was limited to third place, and Adhikari's deposit was forfeited in 1 and he rose to fourth place. In both constituencies, the National Independent Party candidates have won.
According to the legal provision that the deposit is forfeited if 10 percent of the total votes are not obtained, Adhikari had to get 4,706 votes out of the 47,061 votes obtained in Baglung to save the deposit. However, the deposit was forfeited as Adhikari received only 4,521 votes.
In Baglung constituency number 1, RSP candidate Sushil Khadka won with 20,927 votes. His nearest competitor, Bhim Bahadur Shree Rana of the Nepali Congress, received 11,944 votes and Hira Bahadur Khatri of the UML received 8,640 votes. Eight candidates, including Rajmo Adhikari, could not secure their deposit. Similarly, in Baglung constituency number 2, RSVP candidate Som Sharma was elected with 12,647 votes. While Congress's Tekraj Poude came in second with 11,868 votes, NCP's Gyamnath Gaire, who had aligned with Rajmo, came in third with 10,709 votes.
In Baglung, where party president Chitra Bahadur KC had a strong influence, elections were often contested between Janamorcha and other parties. KC had become a 'brand' in Baglung politics. Many liked KC for his original style and his habit of making realistic comments on politics. KC had campaigned against federalism since the constitution-making stage.
His main issue was that federalism cannot be tolerated in a country like Nepal, and it still is. This time, the same KC had not stood up directly, citing domestic problems. KC: Janamorcha must cross the 3 percent 'threshold' to become an MP through proportional representation, which is unlikely. Although 70 candidates have been fielded from Janamorcha across the country, the results in most places have been disappointing. After the security deposit was confiscated in Baglung, which has been considered a fertile ground for Janamorcha, the Janamorcha's participation in parliament is certain to be zero. The stronghold of the leftist power in Baglung has also collapsed.
Janamorcha President Chitra Bahadur KC, however, claims that there is also external influence on the election results . KC said that the current results have come about because the major political parties in Nepal have not improved . 'I had warned the Congress, UML and Maoists in parliament, 'Reform, otherwise we will be finished.' "It seems that this is what has happened now," he added, "However, we need to stand up against the genocide committed by the US on humanity." KC also claimed that he was targeted by the US because he spoke out strongly against the MCC.
When there were 240 constituencies, there were three constituencies in Baglung. The former No. 2 and currently No. 1 constituencies were strongly held by the Janamorcha. President Chitra Bahadur KC was elected from there several times without an alliance. They believe that the Janamorcha's support base has been declining since the constitution was promulgated on 3 Asoj 2072, when most of No. 2 fell into No. 1 constituency.
