In the House of Representatives elections, CPN-UML candidate Rajendra Kumar Rai from Dhankuta has scored a hat-trick in his parliamentary journey. Rai won with a total of 18,132 votes. He won by defeating 17 other candidates. His nearest rival, Nepali Congress candidate Dinesh Rai, received 14,256 votes. Shram Sanskriti Party candidate San Bahadur Rai got 11,932 votes. Rai, who was born on Bhadra 29, 2022 BS in Ramche village, Pakhribas Municipality-7, is considered a successful figure in the leadership role of CPN-UML. He has previously won in the 2074 and 2079 House of Representatives elections. Rai, who is also a central member of the UML, was the district president of the party for a decade. Rai began his journey as a public representative in 2049 BS as a member of the District Development Committee. Rai, who studied till graduation, was associated with the then Nepali Muslim League (ML) from the AnNFSU since his studies at Gokundeshwor Secondary School in Siranbazar, Dhankuta-6.
He became the district president of the AnNFSU in 2047 BS and was also in the leadership of the Youth Union Nepal. In 2036 BS, he became the youngest representative at the fifth general convention of the AnNFSU, when he was only studying in the 8th grade. In 2054 BS, he was also the vice-president of the District Development Committee. Rai, who had been involved in leftist politics since 2035 BS at the age of 13, had been imprisoned in the movement for political change in 2046 BS. He lived underground from 2042 to 2046 BS. He was released on Chaitra 27, 2046 BS with the advent of multi-party politics.
After that, he gradually became a member of the party's secretariat and a central member of the Farmers' Federation. In 2066 BS, Rai, who had been leading the district, became the central vice-chairman of the Tea and National Coffee and Tea Development Board. He is currently working as the district in-charge of UML.
He was a candidate for the then Constituent Assembly election in the then Constituent Assembly constituency no. 2 in 2070 BS and was defeated by the then General Secretary of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Sunil Bahadur Thapa. Rai then defeated Thapa in the two House of Representatives elections held there. 'Before this too, I have worked for the people of the district as much as possible,' he said, 'now I have resolved to complete the remaining work as planned.'
