Bishnu Bahadur Khadka of Nepali Congress has been elected in Surkhet-1. He won by getting 26,897 votes. Dhruv Shahi of UML got 18,890 votes.
He is participating in the parliamentary election for the first time. He is the younger brother of former Congress acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka. Purna Bahadur has won elections from this constituency five times since 2048 BS. He was defeated from this constituency in 2074 BS and became a proportional representation MP once.
Khadka, who was the Congress district vice-president, started politics in 2036 BS by standing in favor of multi-party politics. ‘At that time, I led the marches, graffiti and pamphlets in favor of the multi-party system in Birendranagar,’ he said. ‘I also led the people’s movement in 2046 BS. During that time, I had to spend 11 days in detention for the first time and 26 days in detention for the second time.’ In the 10th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, he was elected as the ward president of the former Birendranagar Municipality-8 and also won a representative in the 14th General Convention.’
Khadka, who started a business called Maya Medical Hall in Birendranagar, Surkhet in 2042 BS, is now running Maya Nursing Home. Khadka, who founded the Midwest Transport Entrepreneurs Association in 2050 BS, is also the chairman of Midwest Transport Pvt. Ltd. He has been leading this organization for 32 years and has also become the central vice-chairman of the National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs. His Maya Oil Store is also in operation in Birendranagar. He was born on Kartik 6, 2024 BS in Itram, Birendranagar Municipality-7, Surkhet. He has completed his education up to SLC. He says that he has provided employment to at least one thousand youth through the business he leads and has contributed to development work including education, health, and other areas since the establishment of Madhya Paschim University.
Newly elected MP Khadka said that he plans to make Karnali Province prosperous by remaining loyal to the people and adhering to the Constitution of Nepal. ‘I have reached this stage by combining politics, business, and social service. I am aware of the problems here. I am committed to making laws and development by incorporating those problems,’ he said. ‘I plan to fulfill the promises made to the voters during the election in a planned manner.’
