Manang is the least populated district in Nepal. Due to its mountainous geography, small settlements, and close-knit society, the politics here are also different from other districts in the country.

Since electoral competition sometimes reaches within families and leads to rifts in relationships, Manang's politics has often moved forward on the path of consensus and understanding. Tek Bahadur Gurung is a leader who emerged from this social structure, who has charted a path to national politics by advancing business, tourism, and politics simultaneously.

Tek Bahadur Gurung, born on 11 Mangsir 2011 in Tanki Manang of Ngisyang Rural Municipality, Manang, is the youngest of five brothers, Kaji Gurung and Pulma Gurung. Raised in a normal family environment in a Himalayan village, he studied up to grade 10. After that, he moved to Kathmandu to earn a living. After reaching the capital, he started a business and gradually became active in the manpower and tourism business. Even now, he is involved in foreign employment-related businesses and the hotel business. He has two sons and two daughters.

Along with business, he was also active in social and political activities. In 2036 BS, he formally started politics by joining the Nepali Congress from BP Koirala. Since then, he has been active in expanding the party organization and leadership. Later, he became the president of Nepali Congress Manang.

His political activism gradually reached the national level. When the then president of the Congress, Sushil Koirala, was the prime minister, he became the Minister of State for Labor and Employment from 13 Falgun 2070 to 9 Paush 2072.

Since the politics of Manang revolves around a small social circle, the electoral competition here has also been interesting. In the first Constituent Assembly election of 2064 BS, the then CPN-Maoist leader Dev Prasad Gurung won by defeating Tek Bahadur's brother Palten Gurung.

In the second Constituent Assembly election of 2070 BS, Tek Bahadur Gurung began his parliamentary journey by defeating the then RPP candidate Tripal P Gurung. In the 2074 BS, he was defeated by UML candidate Polden Chopang Gurung by 289 votes.

In the 2079 House of Representatives elections, Manang's politics took a different turn again. Manang's religious leaders and social leaders became active to prevent a recurrence of conflicts and a lack of communication between families due to the elections. After that, efforts to reach an agreement began between the political parties.

According to the agreement, an agreement was reached between the two major parties, the Congress and the CPN-UML, to take turns representing the federal parliament. This time, it was agreed that the Congress would represent the federal parliament and the UML would represent the provincial assembly through the lottery system.

After this agreement, UML candidate Polden Chhopang Gurung withdrew his candidacy. He was a competitor in the previous election and became Tek Bahadur Gurung's main ally this time.

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer officially declared Tek Bahadur Gurung the winner at around 6:30 pm on Friday. He received 2,415 votes. His nearest competitor, the CPN candidate Yashoda Gurung (Subedi), received 454 votes, while Ram Bahadur Ghale of the Mongol National Organization received 9 votes. 45 votes were invalidated.

2,923 votes were cast in Manang, which has a total of 7,000 voters. Out of these, Tek Bahadur was elected as a member of the House of Representatives with 82.62 percent of the votes. His victory was made easy after UML candidate Polden Chhopang Gurung and RPP candidate Kubir Singh Gurung withdrew their candidacies on the day of withdrawal of candidacy.

This election also showed an interesting coincidence in Manang politics. Polden Chhopang Gurung, who was a competitor in the previous election, became Tek Bahadur's main ally this time. Similarly, Yashoda Gurung (Subedi), the wife of Dev Prasad Gurung, who defeated Tek Bahadur's brother in 2064, was defeated by Tek Bahadur this time.

Along with business and politics, Tek Bahadur Gurung is also active in social and cultural activities. He is one of the founding members of the Manang Marsyangdi Club. He is also the producer of the Nepali film 'Jhuma' and has also contributed to the cultural sector.

After winning the parliamentary election for the third time, he said that he will make the development of Manang his first priority. He said, ‘It is a small district, we are all from the same family, there is no one who is not related,’ he said, ‘The Congress-UML alliance has sent a good message. Now everyone will have to develop together.’

His former rival and current fellow traveler UML Manang President Polden Chhopang Gurung also interpreted this as a victory for the people of Manangi. He said, ‘Now we will do development and politics together, we are going to do it together,’ he said, ‘We are very happy, Manangi is happy.’

His closest competitor Yashoda Gurung (Subedi) has also wished the newly elected MP. She said, ‘I want to say, ‘Do good for Manang, what else can I say?’ she said, ‘Manang people thank you very much, you have voted for us in second place.’
