Nepali Communist Party (NCP) coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the current election is necessary to save the nation. Speaking at a public meeting organized in Liwang, Rolpa on Saturday, former Prime Minister Dahal expressed concern that the country is currently facing a political crisis.
'The responsibility of protecting nationalism and independence has fallen on the hands of the Nepali people. There is a situation where the country needs to be protected from foreign agents,' he said. 'The people should understand this situation because it is a complex political situation. The country needs to be protected from foreign powers and agents within the country.'
Dahal mentioned that the country went to the election after the Gen-G rebellion of Bhadra 23 and 24. 'The situation after the Bhadra 23 and 24 incidents and the demand for the movement are the elections. Now we have to move forward in a new way. Let us resolve to save the nation,' he said.
Dahal said that this time the election is going to be held in a very complicated and uncomfortable situation. He said that there are currently two extremist tendencies and it is necessary to expose them. He called for defeating the forces that brought about the destruction of Bhadra 23 and 24 and such a situation. For that, a serious appeal had to be made from the central base area and based on that, he said, he planned to embark on a new journey to bring socialism.
Dahal arrived in Liwang by helicopter in the afternoon after addressing the assembly in Kapilvastu on Saturday. Dahal was elected from Rolpa in the first Constituent Assembly member election in 2064 after the end of the Maoist armed conflict that lasted for about 10 years, making Rolpa the main base area. Recalling that moment, Dahal thanked the voters here and said that it gave him energy.
'Rolpa is the stronghold of the revolution. The people here are revolutionaries. The people of Rolpa have made an important contribution. I have come again among the families of martyrs, injured, disabled and missing warriors who supported him in the war,' Dahal said.
He said that coming to Rolpa was more energizing than organizing a big assembly in Kathmandu.
He said that the crisis, corruption and inequality still need to be eliminated in the country. 'The constitution was made by being elected from Rolpa in 2064. Now the crisis remains to be resolved. Corruption and inequality remain to be eliminated. Energy comes from winning from here. When the country is in trouble, one should come here,' he said.
He claimed that Rolpa and Rukum have been and will continue to be the central base areas for his party. He said that he has formed a new party to go towards socialism and will return with energy from here.
He called on Rolpa candidate Barshaman Pun to support him. 'You win him, I will make him a minister again. I will do whatever Barshaman needs to do,' he urged.
Similarly, about being a candidate from Rukum East, he said, 'I am a candidate from Rukum East. The reason I went to Rukum is to save the nation. I went to Rukum East to resolve this crisis. I need the support of Rolpa and Rukum to remove reactionaries and brokers. That is why I have come.'
He claimed that he worked for a better system when he reached the government for the third time. He complained that he had to step down from the government despite having improved internal and external relations.
He urged the election to be free from fraud and corruption. He also urged the Nepali Army, which was deployed for election security, to protect the people's opinion. NCP leaders Barshaman Pun, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Jokh Bahadur Mahara and others spoke at the meeting.
The NCP had sent leaders and cadres from all local levels to Liwang.
