Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has urged the people of Tarai and Madhesh to celebrate Holi in an election-friendly environment.
Speaking to media persons after participating in a meeting on ‘Current Situation of Election Security: Challenges and Solutions’ organized with officials of the Central Security Committee under the Ministry of Home Affairs in Birgunj on Friday, he requested them to celebrate Holi in a peaceful, dignified and easy manner.
‘Holi is a big festival of Tarai, but we urge them to celebrate it in an election-friendly manner without any fuss,’ he said. ‘We believe that Holi and the election can go ahead peacefully together.’
He clarified that there were fewer violations of the election code of conduct in Madhesh this time compared to previous elections, stating that there were no serious incidents that required serious punishment. According to him, about 1,000 complaints have been resolved, including those taken up by local levels across the country and those resolved by the commission itself.
Stating that the election campaign has also been relatively economical, Bhandari said that attempts to engage in ‘politics of prohibition’ have been identified and controlled in time.
‘The politics of prohibition itself has been prohibited,’ he said.
