Changes in the constitution and laws are needed for the development of Karnali: Gagan Thapa

What you should know

Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the development of Karnali is expensive. He said that the constitution itself should be changed to make the province stronger as it is not as easy and has no income like Kathmandu.

'For this, the constitution and laws should be changed to give importance to Karnali and make it possible to bring money and spend it in Karnali,' he said while addressing an election rally organized in Surkhet, the capital of Karnali province, today.

He said that people are raising wrong questions like, "What did you do in so many years when you say, 'Give us five years and we will work.' 'We have had to compromise a lot in the past and could not work, so now the Nepali Congress will do it for five years.' He also challenged all the candidates for the post of Prime Minister to come together and debate.

Saying that development will be achieved by skilled manpower, Thapa said that investment should also be made for the child growing in the womb. 'Investment should also be made in the mothers, nutrition and education of Karnali. It is not just about Yarsagumba, Jumla apples and Marsi rice,' he said.

Chairman Thapa also took a dig at those who are called 'new parties'. 'Is it not an agenda but just walking around in an open vehicle waving hands? Didn't the Maoists also say in 2064 that we would change the government?' He asked. He urged people not to fall into such confusion now.

He claimed that since the Congress has changed, the country will also change. He said that the country should not be allowed to go into conflict for the next five years and urged the workers to go door to door to explain.
